Despite the concerns, Premier Eby is determined to proceed, stating, 'We waited, and we waited, and we waited. I’m here to announce that we are done waiting.' The province claims that this decision will align B.C. with the Pacific states from March through November. However, the Canadian Federation of Independent Business warns that small businesses may be caught off guard, as the consultation process was rushed. Sleep experts, including Dr. Wendy Hall from the University of British Columbia, express concern about the potential health impacts of year-round daylight time. They argue that it will result in decreased morning sunlight, leading to lost sleep, especially for teens. This could contribute to various health issues, including obesity, diabetes, and mental health problems. The decision has also been criticized as a political distraction from the province's financial challenges, with a projected $13-billion deficit.
